Epworth is excited about our newest mission area -- Angel Food Ministries -- which will be rolled out to the large community beginning in September 2010. Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and financial support to communities throughout the
Through the Angel Food Ministries program, host churches take pre-orders, primarily done online, for “units” of food, based on a monthly menu (listing of food). Each “unit” is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box, and is sold at $30 per unit, with other offerings with varying pricing. While each month’s menu is different than the previous month, every monthly unit consists of both fresh and frozen items that have an average retail value of approximately $60-$65. Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week, or a single senior citizen for almost a month, and contains an average of 6-7 different meats or main courses, pasta & rice, eggs, potatoes and other vegetables, as well as fruits and dairy products.
The food is all the same high quality one would purchase at a grocery store, with no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented or unlabeled cans, no day-old breads, and not produce that is almost too ripe. The meats, produce, frozen foods, and dairy products are considered “restaurant quality” and are acquired through involvement and partnership with the best producers/vendors of high quality, “name brand” foods.
Beginning the end of May, Epworth members, friends, and family will have the opportunity to "test drive" the new program by ordering various packages for themselves, prior to our "official public roll-out" in September.
